A Female Student Arrives at the Imperial College (2021) is the story of the only daughter of the Grand Marshal, Sang Qi, who becomes the first female student to attend Imperial College, which is an all male school for young men from noble families.
Sang Qi (Zhao Lu Si) is a young woman who grew up at the very border of the Yan Kingdom, where she developed into a free-spirited, energetic, and intelligent individual, unlike other noble ladies of during this time period.
Sang Qi has one desire and that is to fulfill her older brother, Sang Yu’s, last wish – to study in the Imperial College. So she returns from the frontier to Bianjing to attempt to get permission from the Emperor to attend the college. She brazenly runs into trouble on entering the city when she takes control of a run away carriage belonging to Yan Yun Zhi (Xu Kai Cheng), saving a not-so-noble woman from the carriage. The woman then forces Sang Qi to bet that she can make Yan Yun Zhi Xu accept her embroidered pouch and her invitation to the Lantern Festival. She accepts the bet not knowing that Yan Yun Zhi Xu is one of the Four Bachelors of Bianjing and also the new acting head master of the Imperial College. If she doesn’t succeed in winning the bet, she must replace the famed musician performing in the Lantern Festival and perform herself.
Sang Qi believed both tasks would be easy, getting into the Imperial College, and getting Yan Yun Zhi to accept her embroider pouch. Neither task is easy, however, as she is chased away from the Yan Manor every time she tries to visit. And getting into the college is impossible until her father persuades the Emperor to let her attend and the Emperor finally accepts Sang Qi’s requests to enroll in the Imperial College.
Sang Qi will now be attending Imperial College with her childhood friend Zhuo Wen Yuan and other brocade-uniformed young masters. And as though Sang Qi doesn’t have enough to worry about, it appears that both her childhood friend and the righteous head of the college have both begun to develop feelings for her.
